What is Ovulatory Bleeding?

Ovulatory bleeding is bleeding that occurs around the time of ovulation. Ovulatory bleeding begins a few days before ovulation and often stops as the woman enters the luteal phase.

Causes of Ovulatory Bleeding

There are two main reasons why bleeding occurs during ovulation.

(1) Bleeding due to the process of ovulation

In the process of ovulation, a follicle breaks through the surface of the ovary (ovulation). At this time, the ovary is ruptured, resulting in bleeding.

(2) Bleeding due to changes in hormonal balance

Just before ovulation, the secretion of estrogen (which is the follicle hormone) decreases, causing the endometrium to peel off more easily, which results in bleeding. This is said to be the main reason for ovulatory bleeding. After ovulation, estrogen secretion increases again, the environment of the endometrium is restored, and the bleeding stops.

Quantity and Characteristics of Normal Ovulatory Bleeding

Normal ovulatory bleeding is characterized by the amount and duration of bleeding, although the color of the blood varies from person to person.

The characteristics of normal ovulatory bleeding are as follows

  1. Bleeding in small amounts and very slight adherence to underwear

  2. Bleeding within 3 days before or after ovulation

  3. Occurs irregularly, not monthly

It may be accompanied by pain called ovulation pain, which is sometimes confused with period pain, but this also subsides after ovulation.

On the other hand, if none of the above applies, and the bleeding is heavy, or is not around the time of ovulation, or occurs regularly, then it may be an unusual irregular bleeding.

If you have irregular bleeding, consult your doctor first.

If you experience irregular bleeding, do not judge the symptoms on your own, but consult a doctor first. In addition to hormonal imbalance caused by lifestyle disorders, diseases of the uterine organs are also suspected. If left untreated, cervical cancer, endometriosis, or uterine fibroids can cause infertility and may worsen into life-threatening symptoms. Symptoms of irregular bleeding vary from person to person, and it is dangerous not to easily judge that "it is only a small amount of bleeding, so it is OK.

Preventing Irregular Bleeding through Lifestyle
